I had always wondered about Tempurpedic. That happened because I used to be interested in Sleep Research and a visit to a New York City hotel that had a great Bed. Unfortunately, I did not write down the name of the hotel or bed and it’s been too many years now for me to remember. However, I did remember that it had some sort of memory foam on it so I left with a good impression and purchased this mattress.
Well, here is what some people will find….I slept on it for 7 nights. First night great. Then, I began to notice a slight give in my hip area…(I’m 6′0, 195 lbs). I thought, this is the bed forming to my shape – great! I then a few days later I began to have “hip pain”. Hummm, first time I felt it I ignored it. Next night, ignored it though it was slightly worse. 7th night on the bed, 3rd night of hip pain – I had to get off the bed – I could not sleep or even get comfortable! I had never ever had had a problem before so was confused until my fiancé also started complain about mysterious back pain. It doesn’t take much for me to react. After talking a little we switched back to our previous mattress and then next morning all pains were gone – happy city. Both of us felt great. So, motto is…this may work for some people and won’t for others. I gave the mattress away after 2 weeks. The person I gave it to gave it to her kids because she started mysterious back pain…she figured the kid was very, very light but is keeping an ear on things to make sure the kid doesn’t complain.
On the store purchase side of things … Bed was delivered quickly. It was wrapped well. Looked great! The mattress smelled a little but nothing too serious. Like a newly painted room. I’m giving the mattress 3 stars. It wasn’t good for me but it might be for you. Goodness knows the mattress has been getting good reviews here. Wish it worked for me but it didn’t. If you start to develop mysterious aches after purchasing it get off immediately and see if you feel better without it. Evidently, some humans need the kind of ‘give’ that a foam mattress provides and others of us don’t need it at all.

Purchased 6 months ago to replace traditional innerspring mattress. This is an excellent bed, and has largely eliminated the aches and pains we had after sleeping on the old Serta. We placed plywood over the old box springs to create a suitable platform. There was a slight odor when first unpackaged but it quickly dissipated.
People who think this bed is too hard, you’re nuts! This bed is the best bed I have ever purchased. The smell is not bad by any means, you do notice it but it is not pungent and does eventually go away. All in all this mattress is a keeper.
The matress ballup into lump when you lay on it. The matress was deliver dirty on one side. And it had a very strong smell. It was hard to sleep with that smell.
I was impressed when we first received this produce, though it did have a strong chemical smell, but now that we have used if for some time, I can honestly say rhat this product is worth LESS than what we paid for it. This mattress has not held up well and has already broken down so that it does not offer proper support. IF you want a memory foam mattress, I guess you had better pay more money for a better quality product or purchase a better conventional mattress. I paid approx $125 less than what is is advertised at now and if I know then what I know now, I would have not paid half of what I gave.
It has not been classified by the EPA as carcinogenic for humans. But it certainly is not good for your health. The EPA has not classified this as a carcinogenic substance for humans although there is some fairly compelling data suggesting carcinogenic effects in laboratory animals.

A serious health concern is that toluene may have an effect on your brain. Toluene can cause headaches, confusion, and memory loss. Whether or not toluene does this to you depends on the amount you take in and how long you are exposed. Low to moderate, day-after-day exposure in your workplace can cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, drunken-type actions, memory loss, nausea, and loss of appetite. These symptoms usually disappear when exposure is stopped. Researchers do not know if the low levels of toluene you breathe at work will cause any permanent effects on your brain or body after many years. You may experience some hearing loss after long-term daily exposure to toluene in the workplace.
If you are exposed to a large amount of toluene in a short time because you deliberately sniff paint or glue, you will first feel light-headed. If exposure continues, you can become dizzy, sleepy, or unconscious. You might even die. Toluene causes death by interfering with the way you breathe and the way your heart beats. When exposure is stopped, the sleepiness and dizziness will go away and you will feel normal again.
If you choose to repeatedly breathe in toluene from glue or paint thinners, you may permanently damage your brain. You may also experience problems with your speech, vision, or hearing, have loss of muscle control, loss of memory, poor balance, and decreased mental ability. Some of these changes may be permanent.
Toluene may change the way your kidneys work, but in most cases, the kidneys will return to normal after exposure stops. If you drink alcohol and are exposed to toluene, the combination can affect your liver more than either compound alone. This phenomenon is called synergism. Combinations of toluene and some common medicines like aspirin and acetaminophen may increase the effects of toluene on your hearing.
In animals, the main effect of toluene is on the nervous system. Animals exposed to moderate or high levels of toluene may also show slightly adverse effects in their liver, kidneys, and lungs.
Several studies have shown that unborn animals were harmed when high levels of toluene were breathed in by their mothers. When the mothers were fed high levels of toluene, the unborn animals did not show any structural birth defects, although some effects on behavior were noted. We do not know if toluene would harm your unborn child if you drink water or breathe air containing low levels of toluene, because studies in people are not comprehensive enough to measure this effect. However, if you deliberately breathe in large amounts of toluene during your pregnancy, your baby can have neurological problems and retarded growth and development.
Studies in workers and in animals exposed to toluene indicate that toluene does not cause cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) have not classified toluene for carcinogenic effects. The EPA has determined that toluene is not classifiable as to its human carcinogenicity.”

This mattress is different from any that I have ever had before. It takes a little getting used to but is very comfortable.
Came in just under a week . Sleeps great . I would and will buy another for the grown kids room , to use when they come to visit .

A bit harder to roll over in and get out of bed , think because your more “in” the bed then laying on it .
I love the mattress, however give it atleast a week till your body adjust to its use. It does have the chemical smell that is not that irritating, and after 3 weeks I can still smell it but its getting lesser. For this price definitely a great deal
I haven’t found a decent sleeping mattress since injuring my back and subsequently having surgery. I’ve tried everything including a waterbed.

The mattress ships compressed and is very heavy, so you’ll need assistance setting it up. Also, at the time I bought mine from this seller, they shipped it FedEx and required a signature upon delivery. Well, I work a regular job and couldn’t be there when the FedEx guy would come. So, I had to go to the FedEx warehouse with my trailer to get the thing. So, be advised of this.
As others have mentioned, there is a strong odor from the mattress lasting for a few days but it goes away.
Overall, I’m very satisfied.
We purchased this mattress just a little over 2 years ago. It was very comfortable at first, then began to sag. Now it sags so badly and has flattened in the middle that my husband is sleeping on our couch until we can get it returned. . .
Please be AWARE: When you open the zip cover (very handy for washing!) you will find that this mattress is only about 1 inch of memory foam and the rest some other kind of foam. We would have gotten more memory foam if we had bought a 2 inch topper!
Today I found out that the only way we can exercise our warranty is to send the mattress back to their facility in California at OUR COST (which is more than what the mattress cost us). If they determine that the mattress is not under warranty for some reason (normal wear and tear, for example) they will not issue a refund . . . so I was told by their customer service. If anyone wishes to contact their customer service and verify this policy, please contact the sleepshop at 1-800-721-4893. Needless to say, we are not returning the mattress since we might be out more than we paid for it if we do that!
Wow! Needless to say, we feel more than a bit ripped off.
This bed is great. I’m taking off a star because it still smells of chemicals. The smell is not as strong as it used to be in the beginning but still noticeable. The bed is firm while being plush at the same time. Not for people who want a bed where they sink into it. My dog won’t sleep on his own bed anymore-he loves it that much.
I found this mattress very comfortable. The odor was almost completely gone after a few days of airing the mattress out. I can’t believe how much better I feel in the morning. I have Fibromyalgia and would have trouble waking up at night in constant pain and having to change positions frequently, but with this mattress, I now sleep soundly through the night with much less pain in the morning. I have noticed that the mattress retains my heat and have had to adjust the temperature in my room to keep it cooler. It’ll be great in the winter. I did notice that one side of my mattress is softer than the other, but I am comfortable on both the firmer side and the soft side.
